Below Elbow Prosthesis Case Study

2-24 Patient seen in Troy office for a prosthetic evaluation. He has a right below elbow amputation. His current prosthesis is four years old and in need of replacement.

Below Elbow Amputation

3-15 Patient was seen at the Troy office for a prosthetic casting. We chose to duplicate his current right BE prosthesis. Will make some minor modifications to the mold and fit him with a check socket.

3-17 Patient was seen at the Troy office for a fitting appointment with the clear check socket. The socket fit was very good. He went into the socket with a single ply sock fit. The patient was very pleased with the socket fit. We will make some very minor modifications to the socket and fabricate an acrylic socket.

3-22 Patient was seen at the Troy office for an acrylic socket fitting. He was very pleased with the socket fit. We determined the proper wrist location. The length and angle were transferred onto the socket. The patient decided on a custom acrylic layer and provided a Harley-Davidson tee shirt to be laminated onto the socket rather than a skin tone finish. We will proceed with the definitive lamination incorporating the wrist unit and tee shirt. We will also fabricate a custom triceps cuff.
BE Socket Fitting
3-24 Patient was seen at the Troy office for a definitive right BE socket fitting. He was very pleased with the socket fit, the friction wrist, terminal device location and angle and the appearance.

3-29 Patient was seen at the Troy office for delivery of a right BE prosthesis which incorporated a figure eight harness and riceps cuff. We determined the proper flex-hinges location on the socket and triceps cuff and riveted them to the prosthesis. We placed the HD cable and retainer cup onto the socket and triceps cuff. We adjusted the figure eight harness to a position that was very comfortable for the patient and he was able to control the body powered device effectively. He was very pleased with the fit, function, and appearance of the prosthesis. We took several photos of the patient using the prosthesis including him riding off on his Harley-Davidson Motor Cycle.
