We met Miss Abigail in January 2010. She had us at hello. What a terrific little girl. Abby was born with Tibial Hemimelia and underwent a bilateral lower limb amputation as a toddler.
Abby was fit with her first prostheses in 2008 and her mother told us she was wearing them more and more, but they were difficult to don and seemed too heavy for a 28 pounder.
Hilmo and Lu responded by providing bilateral above knee prostheses that Abby adjusted to in a short period of time. The components that were selected provided much lighter weight devices than she previously had and the KISS (yes, that’s Keep It Simple Suspension) gave her great security while wearing the prostheses.
The Fidelity Team fit and fabricated these prostheses for Abby and we have worked with the rest of her team (her parents, her physical therapists, and her orthopedic surgeon) to provide the best device for Abby at each stage of her adventure.
Abby is growing…gaining weight and getting taller. We have recently provided new prostheses for her. This time with The Little Mermaid Ariel on her sockets and pink shoes on her feet.
We love this video of Abby chasing bubbles with her sister. (Place mouse on movie to access the Play/Pause controls.)
Nothing is going to slow this girl down. She will indeed have wonderful adventures, accomplish her goals and live a life without limits. That’s what our Abby Girl will do!
Abby’s mother, Dena Clauss, has written a wonderful book about “Abigail’s Backyard Adventure”.
Dena wanted to share her feelings with other parents, grandparents, family and friends of children with limb deficiencies. Dena knows first hand that the power of encouragement has given her child the confidence to accomplish small goals now and greater goals in the future.
We hope you will take a minute to research Dena’s book at Abigails-Backyard-Adventures. Dena has included websites and resources that provide so much information for the families of children with limb differences, as well as personal testimonials by other parents.
